I decided to make this a series because I needed to get into more details. "To thy own self be true" means being honest with who you are and the outcomes you want from life. It also includes personal development. You can’t give what you don’t have, and you can’t receive what you can’t give. That lifestyle isn’t sustainable.
You know you have character flaws—none of us is perfect—but there are certain attributes you shouldn’t be caught with. To attract your personal people-friends, you need to drop those bad habits. You can’t be a bad person and expect to attract good people. It’s either you won’t find them, or you won’t be able to sustain the relationship. So, here comes the work: finding yourself.
Finding yourself will even help you in making purposeful friends. Once you know who you are, you will be able to choose mutually. This means knowing what you truly value and want in life, which will help in finding purpose. So, the question is :what are your values? By understanding your values and passions, you can identify what brings you fulfillment, and this will help you find like-minded people and build meaningful relationships.
Remember, finding you is a continuous process. As you grow, you'll find yourself surrounded by the kind of people who will enrich your life. After all, the quality of your relationships is a reflection of the quality of your relationship with yourself.
"Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom" —Lao Tzu
