Unsaid words

Unsaid words have a way of caging people. I was once a mobile prison, carrying the weight of my unspoken thoughts and feelings everywhere I went. It’s a feeling likened to unforgiveness, yet different. In this case, you are trying to forgive, but it seems futile because there are things you need to say. I’m not talking about harsh or derogatory words. No, I’m talking about the meaningful conversations we need to have with those who have hurt us.

For the longest time, I carried baggage that I could have let go of simply by having a conversation. I used to dread uncomfortable conversations and would often just let things slide, thinking it was easier that way. However, I was reminded of the consequences of holding in my feelings while reading 2 Samuel 13. The Bible emphasizes in 2 Samuel 13:22, 'Absalom never said a word to Amnon, neither good nor bad; he hated him.' This unspoken hatred became the driving force that eventually led to him killing his brother.

Reflecting on this story, I realized how silence can allow resentment to grow, leading to outcomes far more painful than the discomfort of an honest conversation. It taught me that expressing my feelings, even when it's difficult, is essential for my peace and healing."

This story is a reminder of how dangerous unspoken words can be. When we are wronged, I believe venting should be permitted—not in a derogatory way, but in a way that allows us to express our hurt and seek understanding. Healthy dialogue can help deescalate our raging hearts and bring clarity to the parties involved. It opens the door for healing, understanding, and forgiveness. By speaking up, we can free ourselves from the prisons of our own making.

"May the courage to speak your truth free you from the chains of silence, leading you to a place of peace where understanding and healing reside."
